Erin Rhinehart

I have always been curious about the workings of the brain. When I was younger I used to cut out brain pictures from magazines and hang them on my wall until it looked like “brain wallpaper.” I find the opportunity to figure out a little piece of how the brain works via scientific research intrinsically rewarding.

I am enthralled by coming up with new ways to teach students challenging concepts interactively. I also enjoy showing students how seemingly complicated scientific information applies to their everyday life.

The Susquehanna University Biology Department has several key features that facilitate faculty collaboration with undergraduate researchers and integration of research and teaching, including:

  • The opportunity for conducting research with senior students during their capstone experience
  • Integration of research into the curriculum by requiring all students to have two semesters of scientific research
  • Excellent facilities within the recently opened Natural Sciences Center
  • Support for summer research via the Research Partners Program and regular celebrations of scholarly research accomplishments by faculty and students during Senior Scholars Day.

All of these features exist in the setting of a liberal arts environment emphasizing critical thinking skills and creativity. Therefore, Susquehanna and the liberal arts environment provide the necessary resources for conducting transformative research in collaboration with undergraduate students.

My outside interests include dog training, community science education, child rearing and cruises.

About Me
